Speech Communities

Bismillah. Assalamu'alaikum wr wb.
 

Characteristics of speech communities, namely :
(-) group differentiation from others speakers. For instance social, cultural, ethnic.
(-) communities are defined with the relationship with other communities.

Insersecting Communities
Each person speaks their own "typical" way according to its place of origin or specific speech community. Rosen claims that cities cannot be thought of as  a linguistic patchwork maps, ghetto after ghetto because:

Questions:
1. Is slang American include in speech communities?
2. Is it suitable for us that using one speech that used in other community?
3. Why speech communities exist?
4. Is speech community same with social dialect?
5. What is benefit for members in speech communities?

Answers:
1. Yes, slang include in speech communities, because slang is used in one group. Firstly, slang used in USA, black skin (Negro/orang berkulit hitam). 
2. Yes it is, but must be careful. Can be we get the negative of possitive effect from it. Depend on how we used it.
3. Speech communities existed because people as human being need social interact. There are people who cannot join with other people in social met and make one community, also from there they make one language that understand by each other in that community.
4. Yes, same because dialect used in one region. Especially in Indonesia there are many dialects. For instance, Batakness, Minangness, Javaness, etc.
5. Maybe in one communities used speech communities, they got relationship.

Aspects cause in speech communities :
1. Age
2.Gender
3. Social status
4. Region/ Space
5. Family
6. Ethnic
7. Religion
8. Occupation
9. Education

SYNONYMY Synonymy is used to mean sameness of meaning. Synonyms are words with the same or similar meanings. Words that are synonyms are said to be synonymous , and the state of being a synonym is called synonymy. Synonyms can often, though not always, be substituted for each other in sentences.
