ARTICLE REVIEW: BASIC IDEAS IN SEMANTICS

Assalamu'alaikum wr.wb
Good day,,

Hellooo haiiii meet with me again. I hope you are okay my lovely readers... Right now, I want to post my 1st job in Semantics course that is make article review. This article or journal I got in academia.edu about topic of Semantic. Well, this journal post by Nina Apriska entitle "Basic Ideas in Semantics, Utterance, Preposition". It has six pages. Beginning from part three. I do not know where the other part. Here is the review.

This journal devided into four part there are introduction, basic ideas in semantics, conclusion, and referencess. And in Basic Ideas in Semantic tells us about semantics, sentence, utterance, and preposition. Here are the explanations.

Topics
A. About Semantics
Semantics is the study of meaning in language (Harimurti, Kridalaksana. Pesona Bahasa: Langkah Awal Memahami Linguistik. Jakarta: Gramedia. 2005. Hal. 114). The word "semantics" itself denotes a arange of ideas, from the popular to the highly techincal. It is often used inordinary language to denote a problem of understanding that comes down to word selection or connotation. In linguistics, it is the study of interpretation of signs or symbols are used by agents or communities within particular circumstances and contexts. Within this view, sounds, facial expressions, body language, have semantic (meaningful) content, and each has several branches of study. In written language, such things as paragraph, structure and punctuation have semantic content; in other forms of language, there is other semantics content.

B. Sentence
A sentence is neither a physical event n or physical object. It is, conceived abstractly, a string of words put together by the grammatical rules of a language. Sentences are generally characterized in most languages by the presence of a finited verb, e.g. "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".

C. Utterance
An utterance is any stretch of talk, by one person, before and after which there is silence on the part of that person. An utterance is the use by particular speaker on a particular occasion of a piece of language, such a sequence of sentences, or a single phrase, or even a single word. For example:
1) "The plane now arriving is Garuda Airlines".
2) "Horses".
3) "Hummmpfh".

D. Preposition
Preposition is that part of meaning of the utterance of a sentence which describe some state of affairs. The state of affairs typically involves or thinga refered to by expressions in the sentence.
Sentence : "Jack is girlfriend, Jane, who is a nurse, like oranges."
Preposition:
a) Jack has a girl friend.
b) Her name is Jane.
c) Jane is a nurse.
d) Jane likes oranges.

Evaluations
First of all, this journal used to tell the basic ideas in semantics and some teories of semantics. This journal good for the learners. Language is presented easy to understand. Also, there are many words by expert. Searcher used library study. The strengthness from this journal is the contents or result or findings are clearly and use easy language to the reader. For the contents to there are some definitions not from expert but from the books also. There are also have footer. And for the words that important words the writer makes bolt (with blue written).

Second of all, the weakness from this journal are it is straight to the part 3, has not part 1 (preface, table of contents) and part 2 (background, research of formula, aim of research, methodology). When I download this journal and I opened it word, some of the words do not have space so I confused It wad word or not but I did not find the meaning so I gave the space and I found the meaning.

Okay, I think thats all about my 1st review of journal. Next time I'll continue. I am still have 4 assignment. My suggestion to you all this journal can you copy or become as your reference especially for the contents.

See you on my next posting!!^^ Saranghae urireaders ♡

Wasaalam...
